Q: What is The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition?
A: The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the most popular and respected competition concerning to the international law all over the world. The competition is being held since 1959. Teams from 100 countries took part in the international round of The 2004 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.

Q: Who organize the Competitions in the Republic of Armenia?
A: Armenian Young Lawyers Association in cooperation with The Law Foundation of Armenia and the Law Students’ Division of AYLA with the support of the US Embassy in Armenia organize the Armenian Round of The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. The competition is aimed at the development of the legal education in the Republic of Armenia and to provide an opportunity to the law students of the Armenian universities to brief and argue on timely issues of international as well as customary law, to discuss urgent topics and to improve their professional skills and abilities in oral and written advocatory practice.

Q: What is International Law Students Association (ILSA)?
A: The International Law Students Association (ILSA) organizes The Jessup competition all over the world. ILSA is a not-for-profit organization, which is located in Washington. ILSA establishes legal clubs in different universities as well. These clubs join the students who are interested in the international law. ILSA assigns the Administrator of the competition to organize the Armenian National round. For more information on ILSA please see its official site at: www.ilsa.org.

Q: How many rounds has the competition and which are they?
A: The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition has two rounds a National (or Qualifying) Tournament and an International Tournament. The National Tournament in its turn consist of written and oral rounds. The teams introduce their written pleadings in accordance to the schedule and after that they are allowed to take part in the oral round. The winner, which later represent Armenia in International Tournament, is determined in the result of the two rounds.

Q: What school students may apply to participate? What is the possible number of each team members?
A: Only students of the law schools and the law faculties of the institutes of RA can participate in the competition. The team may be composed of two (2) to five (5) student members. The best choice is 4 or 5 members.

Q: Is a school or an institute eligible to participate with two teams if there are more than 5 students, who wish to take part in the competition?
A: No, each institute or law school may enter one team only. If there are more than 5 students in the institute, who wish to take part in the competition, the institute should held an internal competition and form one team in the result.

Q: May students that are enrolled in a full-time program leading to a Master of Law Degree (L.L.M.) participate in the competition?
A: The procedure of including L.L.M. students in the team is described in the official rule 2.2.3. Students that meet the requirements of the rules may participate in the competition with written approval of the Executive Director.
